What Do You Need To Do Again?

Hi!

If someone asked you, “What do you need to do again,” what would be your first thought?  Maybe it would be a list of things.   But before we resurrect the list; let’s wait.  Think about how needing to do things again comes upon us.

Sometimes we are so engrossed in moving forward, until we lose sight on the things that bring us true joy.  We are so driven to succeed in our career, education, ministry and business goals, until we lose us.  We might even be so wrapped up into helping others until we forget about ourselves.  We are walking in purpose; yet we’ve lost the essence of who we are.  Can you relate?

What is forgotten?

We forget that we like silk and flowers.  We forget how calming it is to just sit at the piano and play Fuer Elise or Amazing Grace.  Oh yes, a woman who loves to cook can become so used to take out, until she forgets her culinary passion.  Some of us not only forget how we love to cook; but we forget our love for Cornish hens and wild rice.  …We forget how relaxing it is to re-pot plants; or sewing.  imageWe forget how soothing and inspiring it is to go sit by the river and read?  Can you relate?  Yes?  So the question is, “What do you need to do again?”

All of that and more?  Well, what’s stopping you?

Perhaps you’re the type that hates to repeat anything.  Maybe you hold to the belief that having to do something again equates failure.  But does it have to always be so?  Is repeating always repeating?  I know the educators are saying, “Yes!  If you failed a class, you have to take it over to get promoted.”  And you’re absolutely right.  But does anyone do anything exactly the same as they did before?  Don’t get me wrong,  The intent here is not to suggest that we go backwards; or fail on purpose just to repeat.  We can all say that there is room in our lives to keep growing.  Pressing forward is key.  Yet, I believe that we all can do some things again.

Some repeats are for learning purposes.  Have you ever retaken a college course for a better grade?  Especially an Accounting class?  It was the second time around; when, “The cost of goods sold,” finally clicked?   This time, your grade was an “A.”  You needed to do it again.

But, helpful repeats come in more forms than retaking classes.

Do me a favor, please.  Think of one thing that you use to really enjoy, that you haven’t done in a long time.  Did, “It’s been so long,” come into your spirit?  My friend, what is it?

How long has it been?

How long has it been since you dreamed, hoped, played, giggled, blushed or laughed so hard until you cried?  How long has it been since you had some pure, genuine, non-work related fun?  How long has it been since you treated yourself to a pamper day?  How long has it been since you went to a game, a concert or to work out with friends?

How long has it been since someone serenaded you?  …I answered a voicemail the other day, and heard singing, “I just called to say, I love you.  I just called to say how much I care.  I just called to say, I love you.  And I mean it from the bottom of my heart.”  …I was in the midst of an intense situation.  But this brought a smile to my face.

How long has it been since you and your family enjoyed a day together.   You may have gone through a divorce; lost a job or home.  You may have experienced a loved one’s passing.  The tremendous loss may have impeded your ability to enjoy family time with your loved ones.  I’m a witness that God can make a way for you to do it again.  He recently did it for me and my precious sons.  It reminds me of Ephesians 3:20.  “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”  (KJV)

My friends, how long has it been since you took notice of what God is doing in your life, and it tickled you?   I don’t know about you, but I’m so ready.  Let me rephrase that; “I’m here!”  I’m on a journey of discovering new things to do again; and loving every challenging moment.  Praise God!  What about you?  What do you need to do again?

Thank you for sharing with me today.  We’ll talk soon.

Blessings!
